About Us
Kim Gilmetti is the Director and
President of AFTA, working out of the New England region. Angie St Clair is
Co-Director and Vice President, operating out of West Virginia. Kim and
Angie are the driving forces behind all of AFTA’s adoptions that
occur every month, primarily out of the Warren Animal Shelter in Warren,
Rhode Island.
Glenna is, in our eyes, God’s gift
to unwanted animals. Working out of West Virginia, Glenna could have at any
one time 70 or more rescued dogs living on her property. These dogs are
spayed or neutered, fed, nursed back to health, and given any other
required medical treatment. Dogs deemed ready for adoption are then listed
on-line as available through the Warren Animal Shelter.
Once a month, adopted dogs are driven
by van from West Virginia to Warren (a 12 hour trip), where Kim and her
handful of New England volunteers unpack the dogs and place them in runs,
where they are kept until their new owners come and pick them up.
Volunteers then attack the van, cleaning out and breaking down all of the
cages, sweeping out the van, then repacking the van with the folded cages,
food, and supplies donated by various sources.
While waiting for their new owners, volunteers
feed, walk, play with, clean up after and comfort the dogs. Often times,
volunteers will grow attached to particular dogs, and are sad to see them
go, but happy to see that they are going to good homes.
