How We Do It
We do it all with a variety of volunteer power, donations and sponsorships!

The process begins in Roane County, WV. Animals are brought to our attention via phone or email contact with AFTA's WV Representative and Chief Foster Care Provider, Angie. These may be dogs found abandoned, privately owned canines (with or without litters), or dogs removed from overcrowded shelters.

Angie ensures the pups and dogs are medically treated, to include spay/neuter surgery and microchip implantation, and listed for adoption locally or transported to a New England venue*. Litters from privately owned dogs will be taken provided the owner agrees the female dog will be spayed as soon as it is safely possible to do so. AFTA will subsidize the cost of the spay.

Unfortunately, unlike with dogs, there are far more cats available for adoption in the New England area than families who want them. Therefore, felines are not transported to out-of-state adoption venues. As funding is available, AFTA will happily arrange and subsidize spay/neuter surgeries for cats. In addition, we will list cats in need of safe, caring, lifelong homes on our Looking for Homes page.

The dogs under Angie's supervision are listed on AFTA's link at Petfinder.com. [click here] Angie will coordinate WV adoptions. All other adoptions are organized by Kim.

HELP FIND BODE! Missing since July 31, 2007, Bode is a yellow lab mix (white fur throughout his coat, bushy tail). [photo] At the time of this posting (15 Sep 07) he is 9 months old. NJ says he's a friendly, calm and sweet guy who has yet to be neutered. At the time of his disappearance, he was wearing a red collar sporting a recent rabies tag (containing his vet's phone number) and a bone-shaped metal ID tag with his name and NJ's telephone number. Bode was last scene off of Bogle Ridge in Rockport, WV, which is about 4-5 miles from I-77. His family misses him SO MUCH! If you have any information, please contact Norma at 304-474-3724 (please do leave a message on the machine) or 304-588-9244(cell ph.)
